Academic Achievement Minimize

Bandiana Primary School prides itself on its academic results and individual student programs. We have been recognised at a national level for an exemplary curriculum and received a national exemplary teacher award in the same year. We have been recognised in the state literacy and numeracy awards for an outstanding numeracy program. Our teachers are focussed on providing the best possible outcomes for all children and strive to provide exceptional and exemplary programs to develop student skills.

We focus on the notion “Ever My Best” and encourage students to be confident and proud of their abilities. Our children have the opportunity to excel in a range of academic pursuits. We have been committed to international and national competitions for children of advanced skills. Last year, in mathematics in grades 3-6 we had nine children in the top twenty five percent in the state, two child in the top ten percent percent and twelve children recognised for their abilities in English. These are outstanding results considering the school size and number of entries.

We launched a Gifted Education program in 2008 and have teachers capable of individualising student programs to best meet the needs of academic students. We have cross age classrooms (two year composites) to allow for brighter children to collaborate with children of a similar skill level. We run four gifted forums each year and encourage students with specialised talents to excel. The forums are based on individual and group-based projects that are completed independently on a variety of different topics to encourage creativity and problem solving. As part of this program our school is committed to providing academic assessments for parents, and linking parents to specialist support groups that assist children with exceptional talents.

Our school community values academic learning and doing your very best. We provide a two-hour Literacy block and an hour of Numeracy each day to ensure that we extend children’s literacies. When children are not engaged in specialist studies, they study Rich Tasks. The Rich Task curriculum is designed to challenge children to better understand the world around them on a local, national and global scale. We endeavour to publicly present students’ work to develop personal pride in their achievement.

The school values “Ever My Best” become pertinent to all of the work we do. We encourage artists, athletes, musicians and dancers, scientists, linguists and librarians to pursue their talents and participate in life. We praise achievement and develop children’s strengths so that each child feels a high degree of self-worth and is an active contributor to our community.
